THE SET UP

Lola

When I regained consciousness, I realized I was at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital handcuffed to the bed.

“Glad you’re back with us.” A man who was clearly a detective said. I still didn’t understand all the shit that went down. However, I was certain I didn’t kill those fucking people.

“The doctors said you’re gonna be okay.” The detective continued.

Evidently, I was shot in my upper right shoulder and the bullet went straight through. The motherfucker didn’t even hit a main artery or anything.

“After a few days here, you’ll be transported to Virginia Beach City Jail where you’ll await your trial.” Detective Wright informed me after finally providing his name.

“You picked the wrong house to rob tonight. The victim’s house you robbed happens to be a Retired Sergeant Major.” He chuckled. “No worries for you though. You’ll be getting a speedy trial; he came to identify you while you were unconscious.”

“I didn’t kill anybody; I was framed! I was set up, real talk!” I yelled

“No, no, no, I don’t think so.”

Detective Harvin entered the room talking shit. Harvin was the one who arrested me after I got shot. So I already knew he was gonna be a fucking dickhead.

“You see, while you were out for a couple of hours, it gave us time to build a case against you. You’re a stripper named Lola Rogers as well as a single mother who decided to rob some rich folks along with your child’s father, Alexander Harris, for some extra cash!” He threw a file on the bed then asked, “Isn’t that true Lola?”

I became an anxious ass bitch. My hands were sweating from all the paranoia. They could tell I was hiding something. These motherfuckers seemed to know it all. Even though I didn’t know shit about law, I was aware I was in deep shit. I couldn’t believe it; Kandi set me up!

“Come on, tell us something Lola. The truth would be better.” Detective Harvin advised.

“We both know you’ve been in your share of trouble. There’s no need to lie.”

Already, I hate this Detective Harvin nigga. He’s trying to have a bitch locked up for life. I told these motherfuckers I didn’t kill anybody. All types of shit was running through my head. I wonder what happened to Alex. I wanted to know who the fuck that man was standing there with his hands up. Clearly, Kandi had crossed my mind more than a few times. I bet that bitch is somewhere outta town with all the fucking money while me and Alex go down for this shit. It was all good though. They don’t have shit on me.

“It’s all a big misunderstanding. I was there to help Alex then a man showed up with his hands in the air.”

Both detectives laughed. Detective Wright was laughing so hard he removed his eyeglasses then wiped a tear from his eye. Putting his glasses back on, he said, “The victim already identified you Miss Rogers. Besides, we have the murder weapons that were used to kill Renee Johnson and Ricardo Bell.
